No point in hiding – there is an inner freak in each of us. Mine, for example, has an irrational passion for stationary shops – the yummy shelves packed with colorful pencils and book notes, I wish I could buy them all! – and pharmacies. Yep. Pharmacies. While you, dear reader, are preoccupied with diagnosing me, let me tell you about my favorite pharmacy in Barcelona. Furthermore, there is no need to get ill to have a reason to visit it.

Located at the narrow but busy Travessera de Gracia, it signals itself from 50 meters away with a spicy smell of herbs. Despite all expectations, the owner of this atmospheric place decorated with wooden barrels and antique ceramic plates is not a bearded 105 year old wizard with a magnifying glass, but a young and friendly fellow. Who, nevertheless, knows about herbs and herbal medicine more than you and me can ever imagine.

Apart for the usual suspects such as lavender, teas, oils and spices, the pharmacy offers an extensive selection of the herbs and herbal mixes from all over the world for every ailment, along with a thorough ‘instruction manual’. It is definitely up to you to believe in the herbal medicine or not, but one thing I know for sure: sometimes nothing is a better remedy than a placebo multiplied by exemplary customer service!

Film scholar and a tango fanatic, I was born in 1983 in the gloomy cold place called Estonia. I first visited Barcelona three years ago. The colors, the sounds, the smells, and the inimitable vibe of the city – it did not take long for Barcelona to put its spell on me! ‘This is a city I want to live in’, a thought kept spinning through my head while I was jostling through the endless flow of crowd at La Rambla. So now its your turn! Do yourself a favor, get on a plane/train/bus/car and let this city do its magics!
