There´s no better place than Barcelona, for fans of skateboarding, Motocross, Moto-rally and BMX, during the month of May.

The city has been well known as a sporting hub for decades, in particular for skaters and BMX riders because of its´ accommodating layout and design. Walk down any street in the centre and have several skaters weave past at enviable speeds as you trudge along the pedestrian heavy pavements. Sunny Barcelona now has a contract to be the home of the Summer X Games until 2015 and us locals couldn´t be happier about it.

The games will be held throughout various locations from Montjuic in the Olympic Stadium to the Esplanade Anillo Olímpico. The city is estimated to draw a crowd of over 15000 and for the games to be broadcast around the world to over 300 million viewers on TV and the web.

Even if you aren´t the biggest fan of all things ¨extreme¨ there are plenty of other interesting things happening at the time which are affiliated with the lifestyle such as; a plethora of live music, fashion displays and urban art.

There will be a ¨fan zone¨ erected in the centre of the city where young riders can practice their moves and pick up some tips through professionally directed skate and BMX activities.

X Fest is the name given to the music festival which will be part of the celebrations at Poble Español. Some of the biggest international bands and DJs will be performing as well as a healthy dose of local talent.

Ticket prices for events vary between 10 and 30 €, except for the rally street circuit which is free!

Becky Robinson
Hola! My name is Becky. I´m yet another Australian expat who fell for the beautiful mistress we like to call Barcelona and stayed far, far longer than once intended. I throw myself into the cities events, bars, clubs, shops etc, with reckless abandon to bring you these reviews. It´s all for you! ...Or is it just an excuse to party and spend lots of money without feeling guilty?... Either way, read up on some of my favorite ways to see this exciting and eclectic city. Happy travels and welcome to BCN!
