Still 1 month left before the Barcelona Marathon 2013 takes place on Sunday March 17th at 8:30!!!
The Barcelona Marathon, covering the traditional distance of 42.195 km, is nowadays very popular among professional and amateur runners. Barcelona has become in March the Mecca for athletes of all nationalities. The number of participants continues to grow every year thanks to its wonderful route. It registered 15134 runners in 2011.
Despite the race may not be as famous as the Marathon in New York or in London, the organisation, the views and the human warmth won’t disappoint you. There are lots of participants who take part into the Marathon to raise money to support charities, research, or people in need.
The annual race starts and finishes at plaça Espanya and takes runners through the centre and countless famous sites such as the impressive Sagrada família, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, the cathedral, La Rambla and the harbour.
It’s like a festival in town. I’ve seen a change in Barcelona lately: there are more people who do exercise in the streets or at the seafront and take part in races. So it’s not strange to see more people running or more spectators cheering the participants up on the 17th of March along the route. It’s an exciting event not to be missed in town if you are around.
