Whether you´re missing your original home on the Emerald Isle, have simply taken a wee holiday from it or if you´ve never even been there and are completely without Irish roots, no matter! This national day seems to be enjoyed by folks the world over. And like any good celebration, it´s unofficially spread over a couple of days rather than just one.

Barcelona is no exception to the rule with plenty of ways to spend what is usually a pretty boozy occasion.

Aside from Guiness and plentiful pints of dyed green beer there is also the music, dance and general merriment of the nation to take part in so it´s not to be missed if you´re simply not a keen drinker or have kids to consider.

Well known comedian Andrew Stanley is hosting a stand-up show on the 15th at Teatre de l’Enjòlit for €15 on the door.

On the 16th there is a family friendly fiesta going on at Kittys Irish bar starting at 11AM.

If the weather is favourable you could also check out the 5th Mediterranean Currach Regatta on the 16th, starting at 11AM. A Churrach is a traditional celtic wooden boat and as well as the race there will be music, prizes and other festive activities on Barcelona Harbour.

My pick of the extensive list of Irish themed pubs to spend the day in would be the Michael Collins (Sagrada Familia, Metro: L2) which is the most genuine of it´s type and generally has some great live music.

Becky Robinson
Hola! My name is Becky. I´m yet another Australian expat who fell for the beautiful mistress we like to call Barcelona and stayed far, far longer than once intended. I throw myself into the cities events, bars, clubs, shops etc, with reckless abandon to bring you these reviews. It´s all for you! ...Or is it just an excuse to party and spend lots of money without feeling guilty?... Either way, read up on some of my favorite ways to see this exciting and eclectic city. Happy travels and welcome to BCN!
