This year’s program of one of the most important film events in Spain, the Mecal Short Film Festival, counts more than 300 short documentaries, feature films and animation works both by amateur film makers and professionals from all over the world. This year a new section – Animation – has been added to the traditional official competition sections (International, Oblique, Documentaries). The parallel sections, among other, list two programs, dedicated to the films from Finland, a program dedicated to the best films of Roanne Animation Short film festival, and an homage to the capital of UK – London Calling. The fans of the more experimental, if not to say naughty, cinema will certainly enjoy Adolescent short films section and a ‘hairy’ section, lovingly titled ‘Man is like a bear; the more hair, the more handsome.’ For more information on the venues, prices and program, check Mecal homepage http://eng.mecalbcn.org/.

Anka
Film scholar and a tango fanatic, I was born in 1983 in the gloomy cold place called Estonia. I first visited Barcelona three years ago. The colors, the sounds, the smells, and the inimitable vibe of the city – it did not take long for Barcelona to put its spell on me! ‘This is a city I want to live in’, a thought kept spinning through my head while I was jostling through the endless flow of crowd at La Rambla. So now its your turn! Do yourself a favor, get on a plane/train/bus/car and let this city do its magics!
